DESIGN PROCESS

Our aim is to create beautifully crafted gardens which are loved by our clients and help cultivate a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Whether a large-scale landscape or a small courtyard garden, our design process has been tailored to produce outstanding results. Our garden design service is detailed below. Read our six stages below.

1

First Steps

Introductory meeting to discuss your project & our first impressions of your garden

Define the design brief & deliver our fee proposal

Upon instruction we will require a topographical survey of your site. We can help appoint a surveyor

2

Master Plan

This forms two stages, firstly a top level layout of key features in the garden and the articulation of key routes around the site (Concept Lite). Secondly, following an agreed spatial layout, we design the detail within these areas, the materiality and key planting elements (Master Plan Developed)

We then present the Master Plan in person to you and follow this with an initial Outline Estimate to give an early indication of how much the garden we have designed will cost.

We can also support you through all aspects of the planning process where necessary

3

Detailed Design

Once you sign off the concept Master Plan, we then create a detail pack which includes everything you need to give to a contractor to build your garden.

This includes a material & layout plan, levels, irrigation, lighting and ducting plans, plus any other construction details required

4

Planting Plan

We pride ourselves on our planting schemes and will deliver detailed planting designs, sourcing all plants from the very best growers

We set out the plants according to our plans and make sure the soil has been properly prepared

5

Tender Process

DCD will put forward a selection of contractors best placed to execute the design. We will meet them on site to talk them through the project, issue them with the Tender Pack and guide them through the tender process. We will be on hand to make sure they have all the information they need to quote to build the garden.

We will review the costings and present you with a summary of each submission. If required, we can further engage in cost engineering and adjustments to the scope.

6

Build Phase

On appointment of a contractor, and any sub-contractors, we are available to assist with Project Monitoring (this is charged at an additional rate)

AFTER CARE

We are available to support the ongoing development and maintenance of your garden, and offer various after care packages. Pricing is based on the scope of work required.
